A private non-profit institution of public interest, the Institut Claudius Regaud (ICR) is the Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center in Occitanie Ouest. Part of the UNICANCER federation, it groups together 18 French Comprehensive Cancer Centers (FCCCs) in a network devoted exclusively to cancerology.

Patient care, research and teaching in cancerology are the key missions of the ICR. The Institute brings together a staff of 1150 staff, including 120 physicians and researchers.

The ICR waslast certified by the French High Authority on Healthcare in 2017 (Evaluation V2014) with an unqualified report, containing neither recommendations nor reservations.

In 2014, the ICR integrated the Toulouse University Cancer Institute-Oncopole (Institut universitaire du cancer de Toulouse Oncopole, IUCT-O), incorporating the cancerology departments of the Toulouse University Hospital. (www.iuct-oncopole.fr).

Description du poste

Management of the Department:

  • Manage the activities of the Department in close collaboration with the heads of the Radiotherapy Department (Prof. Moyal) —(3000 patients/year)— and the Imaging Department (Prof. Courbon), the senior head nurses of the Radiotherapy and Imaging Departments, and the General Management of the IUCT-O.
  • Participate in institutional meetings, and implement the orientations taken.
  • Participate in defining strategic orientations of the Radiotherapy and Imaging Departments and identify physicists’ training/recruitment needs.
  • Define the Medical Physics Department’s strategic planning, in connection with the clinical objectives of the two resource Departments and institutional strategic orientations.
  • Coordinate implementation of evolving clinical protocols and standards of care.

Coordinate medical physics activities in clinical practice :

  • Coordinate and ensure quality control activities in radiotherapy and imaging in accordance with the latest national and international standards/recommendations.
  • Coordinate treatment plan preparation and validate doses delivered.
  • Coordinate optimization of diagnostic doses delivered by the various imagery devices emitting ionizing radiation.
  • Coordinate dosimetric optimization of the diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals used in the ICUT-O.
  • Organize medical physicists’ participation in screening visits to the IUCT-O for clinical trials and in elaborating and implementing new protocols or clinical trials.
  • Coordinate the contribution of Medical Physics to the continuous improvement of quality assurance.
  • Ensure, for all activities, the follow-up and implementation of regulatory changes.
  • Update the Medical Physics Organization Plan in conjunction with the heads of Radiotherapy and Imagery.
  • Participate in inspection visits of the French Nuclear Safety Authority.

Stimulate research activities :

  • Coordinate and develop scientific activity within the Medical Physics Department (publications, calls for proposals, contribution to national and international working groups), but also in close collaboration with clinical research in the Radiotherapy and Imaging Departments and certified teams in the Toulouse university community.
  • In particular, link this development with the activity of the Physics Research Group within translational research team 11, RADOPT, (INSERM, PI Prof. Moyal) of the Toulouse Cancer Research Center, combining optimization of radiotherapy through biological, physical and imaging approaches.
  • Develop industrial partnerships in close collaboration with clinical research in the Radiotherapy and Imaging Departments.

Other missions :

  • Pilot, with the Head of the Material Resources and the Biomedical Engineering Departments purchasing and maintaining medical physics equipment.
  • Contribute, where necessary, to purchasing new equipment in liaison with the Head of Material Resources and Biomedical Engineering Departments.
  • Implement, within her/his area of expertise, a training policy both internally (intra- and interdepartment) and externally (scientific education, in particular in the Master of Medical Physics at Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse).

The Medical Physics Department is comprised of:

11 physicists (2 in imaging / Nuclear medicine and 9 in radiotherapy) 6 dosimetrists 2 assistant physicists 1 research engineer (imaging and artificial intelligence) 2 physicists and the research engineer contribute to the Physics Research Group, within team 11, RADOPT, of the Toulouse Cancer Research Center (UMR1037).

  • 1 dedicated CT580 scanner (GE)
  • R&V: Aria 15.5 (Varian)
  • TPS: Eclipse (Varian) / Precision (Accuray) and Iplan (Brainlab)

For brachytherapy

  • 3 PDR afterloaders (Elekta)
  • 1 HDR afterloader (Elekta)
  •  Prostate brachytherapy techniques (HDR and iodine implants)
  • TPS: OncentraBrachy (Elekta), VariSeed (Varian) For imaging and nuclear medicine
  • Nuclear Medicine: two PET/CT IQ and MI (GE).
  • 1 SPECT / CT TDM (GE)
  • 12 nuclear medicine vectorized internal RT treatment rooms
  • 1 Syngula Scintron camera
  • 1 Frontier spectral scanner (GE)
  • 1 1.5 T MRI (Siemens).
  • 2 mobile OEC One C-arms (GE)
  • 1 mammography system (Hologic) + associated macro-biopsy table
  • Radiology equipment (dental panoramic, retro-alveolar, digital radiology table).

Profil recherché / compétences requises

This position requires an authorization to practice or a diploma/degree in medical physics(equivalent to the French Diplôme de Qualification en Physique Radiologique et Médicale (DQPRM).

Managerial experience is essential. A doctorate in science, along with international experience and recognition would be appreciated.

This position also requires organizational and forward-looking skills, as well as initiative and the ability to interact closely with the heads of the Radiotherapy and Imaging Departments. Fluent French and English are required.
